Riyadh - Cairo - French Guyana - South America June 27, 2010
Arabsat second Satellite of the fifth generation (5 A), was launched successfully this morning from the island of French Guyana in South America by the Ariane – 5 Rocket .
The Ariane 5 rocket blasted off at 21:41 GMT on Saturday the 26th , carrying Satellite 5A, manufactured by both French companies Astrium and Thales, to fit in Arabsat exclusive orbit 30.5 Degrees East. This is the second Satellite, that was launched this month successfully.
In the island of Guiana French, where the launch took place, Eng / Khalid bin Ahmed Balkheyour President &CEO of Arabsat, stated that "We are very thankful for the successful launch of 5A that will cover the whole African continent for the first time in addition to Arabsat usual coverage of the Middle East and large parts of Asia and Europe from Arabsat exclusive orbital position 30.5 Degrees East, at all different frequencies, and will provide all communication services, satellite television broadcasting, telephone connections, Internet (broadband) services, VSAT and interactive services. Thus Arabsat has achieved a great progress to serve our customers in the African continent and to compete in this promising African market. "
Balkheyour added that "Arabsat success this month was not possible without the grace of Allah and the hard work of a group of Arab Youth from the headquarter and the two Operating Stations of Arabsat in Riyadh and Tunisia, where they are operating and controlling the satellites. Also, these young engineers participate fully in the designing and supervising the stages of manufacture of these satellites, so I dedicate them my thanks and appreciation "
