Arabsat and CETel start new internet via satellite service from Germany via Arabsat-2B

Riyadh , Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Bonn, Germany

Arabsat, a global operator of satellites and CETel GmbH Germany, provider of Teleport & Satellite Services worldwide, today announced the start of a new and joint satellite service from CETel's Teleport in Germany.

The new DVB/SCPC Internet via satellite service has started in January 2006 from CETel's 7.3m antenna in Germany on a high-power C-Band transponder on Arabsat-2B at 30,5° East in order to offer1- and 2-way broadband Internet services for the African and Middle east market and the possibility for dedicated connections for big communication carriers between the Middle East and Africa into the European fibre network.

In addition, as a result of today's agreement, both Arabsat and CETel customers will now benefit from an enhanced satellite and network infrastructure and expanded suite of advanced communication solutions - including CETel's high-quality Teleport Services and network operations worldwide and Arabsat's leading portfolio satellite solutions and fast-growing satellite networks.

"We planned this new service because we firmly believe that CETel's operations and services, especially in the provision of various broadband Internet via Satellite solutions are natural complements to Arabsat's existing satellite business" said Eng Khalid A. Balkheyour, CEO of Arabsat. "We look forward to leveraging our newly enhanced scale and geographic presence to further improve on the already-robust service offerings and support that we provide to better serve both Arabsat and CETel customers."

Guido Neumann, Managing Director of CETel, added, "Teaming up with a strong partner like Arabsat, who is leading satellite operator in the African and Middle East region, enables us to both offer a wider product portfolio to our customers and to extend the geographic reach of our leading network solutions to additional regions throughout the world."

Martin Terlunen, Managing Director of CETel, who has worked for Arabsat over 3 years (1992-95), said, "We have planned for this service with Arabsat for the last four years and we are delighted to join with Arabsat, a profitable company with a proven track record and successful plan for continued growth and success in the global satellite services industry."
